Buy energy-efficient electronics and appliances.  Replacing older items with energy-efficient models will save you money on your electricity bill and cut global warming pollution. Look for the ENERGY STAR label on new items.

Support Plant-A-Tree projects. Protecting forests is a big step on the road to curbing global warming. Trees "breathe in" carbon dioxide, but slash-and-burn farming practices and logging have destroyed 90 percent of the native forests in the United States.

Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!
Producing new paper, glass, and metal products from recycled materials saves 70 to 90 percent of the energy and pollution, including CO2, that would result if the product came from virgin materials. Recycling a stack of newspapers only 4 feet high will save a good-sized tree. Please...buy recycled products!

Mount a local campaign against global warming. Educate your community about how it can cut global warming pollution. Support measures at the national, state, and local levels.

Keep your refrigerator between 35 and 38 degrees Fahrenheit and your freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
Minimize the amount of time the refrigerator door is open.

Don't leave appliances on standby.  Turn off the power to the TV if no one is watching it.

Westover is known as the "Green Tree" company for a reason.  We are proud to be leading the pack of property management companies with a committed plan to making our environment better and safer for everyone.  Here are some things we do for our local environment and for the safety of you, our valued customers.

1.  All Westover properties are landscaped free of chemical fertilizers.  This ensures a safe environment for you, your children and your pets.

2. All brochure materials are made from recycled paper.  First, it is equal in quality to paper from virgin forest sources and It is readily available.   Second, it diverts waste paper from landfills - recognized as one of the least desirable disposal options.  Third, it allows us to demonstrate our commitment to saving trees.  Trees absorb carbon dioxide, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced when you drive your car 26,000 miles.

3. Westover properties offer free recycling pickup at all communities where local authorities offer recycling services.  We're all in this together, and we want to make it a little easier for everyone to do their part to protect our environment.

4. Refrigerators are replaced with "ENERGY STAR" models.  These models are proven to use 40% less energy than the conventional models sold in 2001. This helps the environment and reduces your electric bill too.

5. Westover regional managers drive energy efficient automobiles.  It saves money on costly fuel and is simply the right thing to do.

6. The Westover Companies support such environmental organizations as "Save The Bay", "Ducks Unlimited" and "The Sierra Club."

7.  Westover is currently testing and implementing systems to greatly reduce all chlorine pool products.  Many people are not, but some people have skin and eye sensitivity when swimming in chlorinated pools.  We want all of our customers to fully enjoy our facilities.

8. The Westover Companies are currently implementing an aggressive schedule to replace old windows with more energy efficient models & increasing attic insulation.  This helps keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer...all while reducing your electric bill.
